Coming from the south, join the A9 past Stirling and Perth, then take the A827 turn-off that leads directly into Aberfeldy; the road narrows as you approach the town, so slow down earlier than you might expect. Stagecoach buses run a regular service between Perth and Aberfeldy for anyone without a car, which is a reasonable option if your course instructor is meeting you locally rather than driving you in from further away. The A827 itself is one of the more scenic approaches to any DVSA centre in Scotland, tracking the River Tay for much of the way, but that scenery comes with a caution: the road can ice over quickly in winter, so check conditions before setting off between November and March. Once in town, Wade’s Bridge and the Birks of Aberfeldy woodland walk are useful orientation points, and cyclists can reach the centre via routes through the surrounding countryside if cycle hire is available locally.
Test routes from Aberfeldy lean heavily on single-track roads, sharp bends and the kind of slow-moving agricultural or tourist traffic you will not encounter on a typical urban route, so an intensive course here is structured differently to one in a city centre. LPOD Academy’s shorter Bronze 10 packages suit learners who already drive confidently and mainly need route-specific practice, while the longer Gold 40 options give more time to build basic control skills before tackling the bends. Every course is secured with a deposit, and full details of how instructor-led intensive training works are in our guide to how intensive courses work if you are deciding between options.
On the day, arrive at Kenmore Street with your provisional licence, and allow extra travel time if you are driving up from Kinross or Pitlochry, since single-carriageway roads through Perthshire can be slower than the mileage suggests. Since 12 May 2026, only you as the candidate can book or amend your DVSA practical test, so once your course dates are set, get the test booked yourself as early as slots allow.
