A Flat £495 Deposit

Your deposit is a flat £495. That is the whole rule, and it is the same wherever you live in the UK and whatever course size you choose. It is a genuine deposit, not the full course price, and it comes off your overall cost rather than being an extra charge. Every course from Bronze 10 to Platinum 50 follows this same rule, and Gold 35 is our most popular course.

What makes up the total cost

Your total course cost is the deposit plus your instructor tuition fee. The deposit is fixed, but the tuition fee depends on two things: the area you learn in and whether you choose a manual or automatic car. Rates vary from region to region, and automatic tuition costs a little more per hour than manual, so a course in one part of the country will not cost exactly the same as the same course elsewhere.

Because of that, there is no single total price that would be honest for every learner. Rather than quote a figure that only applies to some areas, the booking system shows your exact total the moment you enter your postcode, before you pay anything. You see the deposit, the tuition balance, and the full total for your specific area and car type up front, so you can decide with the real number in front of you.

What is included in your course

Every course covers your tuition hours and the use of your instructor’s car on test day, so you sit the test in the car you trained in. Practice varies between instructors: most set aside around two to three hours for test day, and some charge a set fee of about £120 instead. Either way it comes out of your course total rather than being added to it, and your instructor will confirm which applies to them. The hours are the number in the package name, from 10 on Bronze 10 up to 50 on Platinum 50. They are delivered in weeks rather than spread across months, in sessions of 2 to 6 hours, any day of the week between 6am and 7pm, back to back or spread out to suit you. That is what we call the Flexi approach, and it is why we do not sell fixed one-week blocks.

Two things are not built into the standard course price and are worth planning for separately: the government test fees you pay to the DVSA, and any optional extras you choose to add. Both are covered below.

Optional extras

You can add these to your booking if they suit you, and leave them out if they do not:

  • Theory test booked for you (£60 all in): LPOD Academy books your DVSA theory test on your behalf and slots it into your plan. That £60 covers the DVSA theory test fee, so there is nothing further to pay for your theory test. You can also book it yourself directly with the DVSA if you prefer.
  • Test Alerts + Booking Strategy (£50): help finding an earlier practical test date, including alerts when cancellation slots open at your chosen centres.

Government test fees (paid to the DVSA)

The DVSA charges its own statutory fees for the tests themselves, and these are the same nationwide whoever you learn with. They go directly to the DVSA, not to LPOD Academy, and sit on top of your course cost:

  • Practical test, weekday: £62
  • Practical test, evening, weekend or bank holiday: £75
  • Extended practical test: £124
  • Theory test: £23 if you book it yourself

If you choose our optional theory test booking add-on instead, that £23 is included in the £60, so there is nothing further to pay for your theory test. Since 12 May 2026 only the candidate can book and manage their own DVSA practical test, so you hold that booking in your own name while we give you test date support around it.

When you pay

You pay the deposit when you book, which confirms your place and starts the planning. The balance, your instructor tuition fee, is due 7 days before your training begins. Payment instructions are sent to you once your dates are set, and you pay your allocated instructor directly, usually by bank transfer. Ask your instructor for a receipt at the time of payment.

Your balance is confirmed before training begins and it never changes after that. If the timing is tight, tell us before your dates are set: we can often start your training a little later so the balance falls after a pay day rather than before it.

Intensive course or weekly lessons?

Both routes end at the same place: the same DVSA theory test, the same DVSA practical test and the same government test fees. What differs is how the hours are delivered, how you pay for them and how long the whole thing takes. Here is an honest side by side so you can pick the one that fits your life.

Intensity High. You are driving most days, so there is little time to go rusty between sessions and skills build quickly. Gentler. More time between sessions to absorb each lesson, and less pressure in any one week.
Best suited to Learners working to a deadline, such as a job offer, a university start or a house move, and anyone who can clear a block of time and wants to be test ready sooner. Learners who prefer a steady pace, who cannot free up whole days, or who would rather spread the cost over a longer period.

Neither format is better in the abstract, and plenty of people do both, starting with weekly lessons and finishing with a shorter intensive course such as the Bronze 15.
