Sutton Road runs through the heart of Mansfield and connects easily with the A38, the main route linking Mansfield towards Chesterfield, and the A611, which serves Hucknall and Kirkby in Ashfield to the south. Most candidates driving in from the wider Ashfield district will end up on one of these two roads at some point, so it is worth practising both rather than just the final approach to Sutton Road. Mansfield is also served by the Robin Hood Line, which runs rail services to Nottingham, giving candidates without a car a workable route in, and local bus services connect the town with surrounding areas including Sutton in Ashfield, Kirkby in Ashfield and Mansfield Woodhouse. Because Sutton Road sits within the built-up part of Mansfield, expect standard town traffic on the approach, including junctions, pedestrian crossings and parked cars, rather than open countryside driving.
Test routes run from this centre draw on both Mansfield’s town-centre roads and the faster roads linking out towards the rest of the Ashfield district, so candidates need to be equally confident with stop-start town driving and steadier A-road sections. An LPOD Academy intensive course built around this centre reflects that mix directly, rather than over-practising one style of road at the expense of the other, which is a common gap for learners who have only driven with family in one part of the district. Course packages range from the shorter Bronze 15 and Silver 25 options for learners polishing existing skills, through to the longer Gold 45 course for those who need more foundational practice, and every course is booked against a deposit rather than the full fee. our guide to how intensive courses work sets out what a typical week looks like if you are still deciding between options.
On the day, arrive at Sutton Road with your provisional licence and allow a few extra minutes to find the entrance, since sharing a building with the fire station can be confusing on a first visit. Since 12 May 2026, only you as the candidate can book or manage your DVSA practical test, so keep your booking reference safe once the date is fixed.
