From 12 May 2026, the DVSA requires candidates to book and manage their own practical test directly, so check the booking reference is registered under your own name rather than an instructor’s before your appointment. Bring your provisional licence and confirmation details with you on the day, and expect the same format used at every DVSA centre: an eyesight check and vehicle safety questions first, then around 40 minutes of driving including an independent driving section. Take your photocard provisional licence along, since the older paper version isn’t accepted on its own, and if glasses or contact lenses are part of your usual driving kit, bring them, as the eyesight check right at the start has to be passed before the test can continue.
