Drivers travelling from London should take the M40 and then the M42, following signs for the M5 northbound before leaving at junction 7 and picking up the A44 straight into Worcester. The cathedral spire is visible from much of the approach and makes a reliable landmark as you get closer to the city centre. By train, services from London Paddington run directly to Worcester Foregate Street, with a journey time of around two to two and a half hours, and once you’re at the station the rest of the city is easy to navigate on foot, with clear signage pointing towards the main sights along the way. For anyone flying in, Birmingham International is the nearest airport, and a direct train from Birmingham New Street gets you into Worcester in under an hour.
Park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts of the city are worth using if you’re driving, since they help you avoid the worst of the city centre traffic before your appointment. Walking along the River Severn is a pleasant way to reach the centre of town if you’ve got time to spare, and the signage along the way points towards the main attractions, including the Cathedral and the Tudor House Museum. Routes here generally take in the tighter streets near the river as well as the faster roads towards the M5, so tight turns through the historic centre and confident roundabout work out towards the motorway both matter.
Bromsgrove, Redditch, Droitwich Spa, Great Malvern and Pershore learners make up a good share of the appointments here, since Worcester sits roughly central to all five: Bromsgrove, Redditch, Droitwich Spa, Great Malvern and Pershore. Provisional licence in hand and a ten-minute cushion before the appointment are the two practical basics worth sorting ahead of time. From 12 May 2026, DVSA also shifted responsibility for booking and managing the test onto the learner directly, rather than the instructor. For candidates still deciding on a course length, LPOD Academy’s FAQs page answers common questions about how many hours are typically needed before a first test attempt.
