Practical test centre in Worthing

Coming from London, the usual route is the A23 south towards Brighton, then onto the A27 westbound for the last stretch into Worthing. That A27 section carries commuter traffic most of the day and includes several roundabouts, which makes it a reasonable stand-in for the kind of road handling examiners assess: steady lane positioning, sensible gaps on a faster road, and confident roundabout exits. If you would rather not drive, Southern Railway runs frequent trains from London Victoria into Worthing station, and National Express coaches also serve the town for longer journeys.

A DVSA practical test itself starts with an eyesight check on the forecourt, followed by two vehicle safety questions, the general driving section, and a manoeuvre such as reversing into a bay or a parallel park. Many tests also include a period of independent driving, following either road signs or a sat-nav, so it is worth practising that on the actual roads around the Worthing centre rather than somewhere unfamiliar. A DVSA practical test usually runs for around 40 minutes from the eyesight check to the final debrief, so build a little buffer either side of that when planning your day. Bring your provisional licence with you, and if you need glasses or contact lenses to drive, wear them for the eyesight check, since the test cannot proceed if you cannot read a number plate at the required distance. You are welcome to bring your instructor or another passenger along for the test itself, and most learners test in the same dual-control car they have been learning in, so the pedals, mirrors and gear change are already familiar. If things do not go your way first time, DVSA requires a ten working day gap before a retest, which is worth factoring into any second booking around Worthing’s own appointment availability.
