Aberdeen Theory Test Centre

Aberdeen’s theory test centre serves learners from across the city and a wide stretch of Aberdeenshire, since it is the main sitting point for candidates from smaller towns without their own centre. DVSA does not publish the exact street address for individual theory centres on our site, in line with its own listings, but candidates travel in from Banchory, Ellon, Inverurie, Peterhead and Stonehaven to sit their theory test in Aberdeen.

Directions To Centre

By car, aim for Aberdeen city centre and follow local signs to the test centre’s street, keeping in mind that on-street parking in the city centre can be limited; a nearby multi-storey car park is often the more reliable option. By train, Aberdeen station sits centrally, and the theory centre is within an easy walk or short taxi ride of it. Local buses also route through the city centre, with several services stopping close enough to walk the rest of the way, so check current timetables before you travel.

The DVSA theory test itself has two parts, sat back to back in one appointment: 50 multiple-choice questions drawn from the Highway Code and related topics, where you need 43 correct to pass, followed by a hazard perception section made up of a series of video clips, scored out of 75, with a pass mark of 44. Both parts have to be passed together in the same sitting, results are given at the centre before you leave, and the current fee is £23, paid directly to DVSA when you book. Bring your provisional photocard driving licence as ID; without it, you will not be allowed to sit the test.

Passing your theory test is really the starting point rather than the finish line, since it opens the door to booking a practical test and, for many learners, an intensive course. Our Bronze 10 and Silver 20 courses are built for exactly that next stage, once the theory pass certificate is in hand. If you want a clearer breakdown of what the theory test costs and how payment works, our guide to theory test costs covers it in full.

A valid UK photocard driving licence works as ID on the day; if you still hold an old-style paper licence, bring a valid passport as well, since photo ID is compulsory before you can sit down at the terminal. If you do not pass first time, DVSA requires a minimum three working day gap before you can book again, so it is worth using that window to revisit any Highway Code topics or hazard perception clips that caught you out. Your theory pass certificate, once you have it, stays valid for two years, which is normally plenty of time to complete an intensive course and pass your practical test within that window.
