Coventry Theory Test Centre

Coventry Theory Test Centre is one of the busier venues in the West Midlands, reflecting the size of the city it serves. Booking runs through GOV.UK for the standard £23 fee, and because demand is high here, it is worth checking for cancellations rather than only looking at the next available date shown.

The catchment stretches well beyond the city itself, pulling in learners from Rugby, Warwick, Kenilworth, Nuneaton and Oadby, all of which sit closer to Coventry for a DVSA theory slot than to any other city centre.

Because so many candidates test here, LPOD schedules Coventry-area intensive courses, from Gold 40 through to Platinum 50, to build extra practical hours around the theory stage, since a busy test centre can mean a slightly longer wait for a slot. Our theory test costs guide explains exactly what you will pay at each stage.

The pass mark DVSA applies is 43 out of 50 on the multiple-choice section and 44 out of 75 on hazard perception, both required in one visit. A pass certificate then holds for two years, the period in which you need to book and sit the practical test. Fail either part and there is a mandatory three-working-day wait before you can rebook, which matters more at a busy centre like Coventry where slots do not always reopen quickly.

Directions To Centre

Drivers heading in should take the A444 towards the ring road and leave at Junction 4 for the city centre. If you are coming by train, the walk from Coventry station through the main streets takes around 15 minutes, or a short taxi ride covers the same ground. Bus travellers should head for Pool Meadow, the city’s bus station, where routes 21, 7 and 8 all pass close to the centre.

Coventry’s ring road can catch out drivers who have not tested here before, so allow more time than the distance alone suggests, especially if you are relying on the A444 during a weekday morning. Arrive with your provisional licence ready and enough time spare that a queue at the desk will not push you past your slot. After a pass, remember the DVSA rule that took effect on 12 May 2026: the practical test booking has to be made and managed by the candidate directly, not by a school or agent. Given how much traffic converges on the ring road, allow longer than your map suggests, especially if you are also relying on Pool Meadow bus connections to make the slot.

Why Book With LPOD Academy?

Do I need to pass my theory test before booking an LPOD course?
No, you do not need a theory pass to book a course with us. Many learners sit their theory test early in an intensive week, so it is still fresh once the practical lessons begin.

Can LPOD book my theory test for me?
Yes. We can book your theory test for you as an optional add-on, £60 all in, which includes the £23 DVSA fee.

What does the LPOD theory course cover?
Our in-house online theory course covers all 14 topics, hazard perception and case studies, so you arrive at this centre fully prepared.
