What an intensive course actually costs

Every LPOD Academy course starts with a deposit, never the full price. Deposits run from £180 up to £900 depending on the course length you choose, from Bronze at 10 or 15 hours through Silver, Gold and Platinum at 50 hours. That deposit secures your dates and instructor. The rest, the tuition fee itself, is agreed with your instructor after booking and paid before training starts. It is not fixed nationally, it depends on your area and on whether you choose manual or automatic, which is one of the reasons two people booking the same course length can end up paying different totals. On top of that, the DVSA charges its own statutory fees, separate from anything LPOD Academy or your instructor charges: £23 for the theory test and £62 for a weekday practical test. Those go straight to the DVSA, not to your instructor, and they are worth budgeting for separately rather than assuming they are folded into the course price.

Booking your own practical test after 12 May 2026

From 12 May 2026, only you, as the candidate, can book and manage your DVSA practical test. LPOD Academy cannot book it or access your DVSA account on your behalf, and no instructor can either. What your instructor can do is advise on timing and strategy, and flag earlier slots if they come up during training, but the account and the booking itself are yours to hold. It is worth knowing this before you start, since it affects how you plan the run-up to test day around whatever recording commitments are already in your diary.

Fitting lessons around session bookings and auditions

Voice work rarely runs to a fixed weekly pattern. A session gets confirmed with two days’ notice, an audition self-tape deadline moves, and a regular Thursday driving lesson is often the first thing that gets cancelled to make room. That is where a compressed course tends to work better than spreading lessons out over months: you block a stretch of days, often between confirmed bookings, and train every day rather than once a week with long gaps in between where progress quietly fades and confidence dips.

If your bookings genuinely never let up for more than a few days at a time, it is worth talking through whether a shorter, more concentrated course suits you better than a longer one spread across a slower period. Do I need any special licence for driving to sessions and auditions?

No. The standard car licence, category B, is all that is needed to drive to a studio, an agency or an in-person audition. There is nothing specific to voice work involved in what you learn or what you are tested on.

What happens if a session comes up during my course week?

Talk to your instructor as early as possible. Courses are built around a fixed block of days, so a clash is easier to manage with notice than at the last minute, and your instructor would rather know in advance than find out the morning of a lesson.
