It is important to find the course that suits you best when deciding to do an intensive course. The first thing to do is to find out where you’re at with your driving progress. If you’re still unsure of what course is best for you, keep reading below to know more about the courses you may choose when doing an intensive course. Whether you need a beginner or refresher course, we will have you covered. If you need us to recommend a course, you can either use our course recommender quiz or call us on 0800 112 3515!
Beginner – If you have no or very little driving experience with a car, then you may need to look at our Platinum / Gold courses. These are designed to help you cover all of the driving topics and go from A – Z in the driving syllabus. Usually, these courses will last over 2 or more weeks. If you need to book time off or have limited time for these courses, then booking in advance is better as you can secure more preferable dates!
Intermediate – If you have some practice or had lessons a while ago, then you are almost there & ready to take a test. But a medium-sized course will help close the gap between where you’re currently at to becoming test standard.
Experienced – Courses for experienced drivers usually need our Bronze courses. If you have failed a driving test and need a quick refresher course to crack on with your test, then this is right for you. If you have lots of training and have not had much test training either, these courses are good to overview your driving and go over any bad habits, areas of weakness, prior to your driving test.
St Albans is based on the AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4 postcodes and all of the other surrounding villages. Around St Albans are other places/settlements such as Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Welwyn Garden City, Borehamwood, Potters Bar, Luton, Dunstable, Harrow & Chesham. If you’re based in these areas too, home pick up could be possible, enquire to know more about your area!
We do intensive driving courses in other areas too! We provide intensive driving courses in Hatfield, situated west of the town. If you’re based slightly nearer, we also do crash driving courses in Watford & slightly further out in Radlett too.
St Albans is a cathedral city in Hertfordshire. It lies east of Hemel Hempstead and west of Hatfield and has a population of over 57,000 residents in the town. Historically, St Albans is well known for its particular interest because of its 14th-century Abbey Gateway.

Passing your driving test will be all about how you do well on your test. Thus, throughout your course, you will gradually become better and better.
St Albans has no local test centre itself. This will require travel to other nearby towns to take your driving.
If you need more information on different test centres, kindly browse through our practical test centres index page.
While it is necessary to pass your there test before taking your practical, with all our courses, we don’t mind if you have not passed your theory yet. We will help learners like yourself who have not got their theory as we believe it’s just as important as the practical test.
So as part of all our intensive courses, learners like yourself will be able to access our free theory course included with all bookings. It’s a video-based theory course to help you become more confident with the theory test!
St Albans doesn’t have its own theory test centre, you can still take your tests in the nearby test centre that would be located in Watford.Â
Frequently Asked Questions...
What course is best for me?
This depends on what stage you are on your driving journey. Typically most learners will need 50 hours of tuition, however, this is NOT the case for everyone. We do advise that if you have had 20 hours of tuition within the previous 12 months, and feel quite confident with the control of the car, we would recommend a 25-hour course. You can get more information on which course would suit you best on our course pages.
I want a female instructor, can you sort this?
Yes. We work with both females and males. Of course, this does depend on the area that you live in. Please call 0800 112 3515 or email us at info@lpodacademy.co.uk to see if we have a female in your area.
Should I book early?
Booking early is always better as you will have more choice of dates. The earlier you book, the more time you'll have to pass your theory & for us to secure you a good practical test date!
Can I pass my theory with you?
Absolutely! If you need to include & do your theory as part of your intensive course, then we can add this to your booking.
Do you allow breaks in your courses?
Yes, breaks will be given roughly at the halfway point of training sessions. If you prefer to not have any breaks, then we can make a note of this upon your booking with us!
