Practical test centre in Featherstone

Featherstone, a small West Yorkshire town between Wakefield and Pontefract, runs its DVSA test centre from Green Lane and serves a catchment that stretches well beyond its own boundaries. Learners from Featherstone, South Staffordshire, Kidderminster, Rushall and Shelfield and Featherstone, Wakefield all book their practical tests here, giving the centre a mix of candidates who know the town well and others arriving on unfamiliar roads for the first time. Featherstone’s compact size means test routes are relatively short but still cover a proper spread of junctions, so recent local practice makes a real difference even in a town this size. LPOD Academy’s intensive courses concentrate exactly that kind of practice into a handful of days before test day, and since 12 May 2026 DVSA requires the candidate to book and manage their own practical test appointment.

Practical Test Centre Address

Featherstone Driving Test Centre is on Green Lane, Featherstone, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF7 6EH. The centre offers parking facilities for candidates and has toilets available for visitor use. Disabled access is in place. Only standard car driving tests are conducted at this centre, so candidates booked for other categories will need to travel to a different site, which is worth confirming well before your appointment date.

How To Get To Featherstone Test Centre

Drivers coming from the M62 should take Junction 31 and head south on the A655, which leads directly into Featherstone; signs for Pontefract are a useful secondary marker if you lose the A655 at any point. Trains from both Leeds and Wakefield stop at Featherstone Station on a fairly frequent timetable, and bus services also run through the town connecting it to its neighbours. The spire of All Saints Church is a recognisable landmark near the town centre, handy for orientation once you’re off the main road and looking for your final turn.

Because Featherstone is compact, its test routes repeat certain junctions more than a larger town’s would, which means a learner who has driven the town centre a handful of times has a genuine advantage over one seeing it for the first time on test day. An LPOD Academy course, whether the shorter Silver 20 or the longer Gold 40, is structured to give exactly that repetition in the run-up to a booked test. The test format does not vary between centres, eyesight check, safety questions, then close to 40 minutes of driving with an independent section, which is why Featherstone’s own junctions, not the test structure, are what candidates should focus their practice on.

Parking near the main shopping district is generally straightforward, and the town is compact enough to explore on foot once you’ve arrived, whether by car or by train. Bring your provisional licence on the day, and if you’d like to understand how an intensive course is structured before booking, our guide to how intensive courses work sets it out clearly. From 12 May 2026, only the candidate can book or manage their own DVSA practical test.

The eyesight check comes first here too, reading a number plate from 20 metres, followed by two vehicle safety questions before the drive begins. About 20 minutes of the Featherstone test is independent driving, which given the town’s compact layout can mean fairly quick transitions between road-sign navigation and sat nav directions, so cover both in your lessons rather than favouring one. Results are given at Green Lane immediately after the drive, with a pass certificate issued on the day and a full licence arriving by post in the weeks that follow. Because Featherstone is one of the smaller centres in this area, it is worth confirming your exact appointment time rather than assuming a large waiting room will absorb any delay on your part.

Why Book With LPOD Academy?

Can LPOD book my practical test at this centre for me?
No. Since 12 May 2026, only you can book, change or manage your DVSA practical test. LPOD provides test date support instead: centre and timing guidance as standard, plus an optional Test Alerts + Booking Strategy add-on (£50) if you’d like us actively watching for earlier dates and helping you plan around them.

Which course should I choose before my test?
It depends on your experience. Complete beginners usually start with a Gold or Platinum course, while learners who have already had lessons or sat a test before often suit a Silver or Bronze course. Try our course recommendation tool for a personal suggestion.

Are LPOD instructors qualified?
Yes. Every LPOD instructor is a DVSA-approved ADI, paid full market rates, so you get a properly qualified instructor rather than the cheapest bidder.
