Practical test centre in Glasgow (Anniesland)

Glasgow’s Anniesland test centre sits on Beith Street in the city’s west end, close enough to the M8 and rail network that it draws learners well beyond the immediate area, including Dumbarton, Cardross, Callander, Lennoxtown and Torrance. Only car tests run from this address, and the routes examiners use combine dense west-end traffic with the faster stretches of the Clyde Expressway, so candidates need to be equally comfortable queuing at lights and merging at speed. Given the centre’s popularity with city and out-of-town learners alike, booking early matters more here than at quieter rural centres. As at any DVSA centre, expect an eyesight check, two vehicle safety questions and around twenty minutes of independent driving within the forty-minute test, and around Anniesland that independent stretch is more likely to test junction discipline in traffic than open-road speed.

Practical Test Centre Address

Driving Test Centre, 1 Beith Street, Glasgow, G11 6RX. This centre offers car driving tests and provides facilities such as toilets and disabled access. Limited parking is available but plan to arrive early. Given how limited parking is, it’s worth having a backup plan in mind, whether that’s a nearby side street or arriving by train instead.

Because parking is limited and demand for spaces near Beith Street is high, allow extra time to find somewhere to leave the car, or consider arriving by train or bus instead. Bring your provisional licence and test confirmation on the day; since 12 May 2026, DVSA requires the candidate to hold and manage their own booking, so double-check the details if the test was originally arranged by someone else. Make sure your theory test pass certificate number is on hand before booking, and check that the name and photo on your provisional licence match, since discrepancies can result in the test being refused at the door.

How To Get To Glasgow (Anniesland) Test Centre

The M8 motorway is the most direct route for drivers, taking the A814 at junction 19 before following signs for the Clyde Expressway and continuing onto the A739, which is well signposted for Anniesland from that point. This approach mixes motorway-speed driving with a run through busier west-end streets, a combination that shows up directly in local test routes, which typically pair a fast section with tighter, junction-heavy town driving near the centre itself. The Glasgow Botanic Gardens make a reliable landmark for confirming you’re close.

Trains from Glasgow Queen Street Station reach Anniesland quickly, making it one of the more convenient centres to reach without a car. Buses cover the area well too, with several routes running in from the city centre, and taxis are easy to find nearby. It’s even possible to walk from the Gartnavel General Hospital area through pleasant residential streets. Anniesland Cross, a key junction, marks the centre of the area and is worth knowing as a reference point when giving directions to an instructor or examiner.

A manoeuvre is highly likely somewhere in the residential streets around Beith Street, where parked cars on both sides of narrower roads make reverse bay parking or a parallel park a genuine test of spatial judgement rather than a formality. Because parking near the centre is limited for candidates arriving by car too, it’s worth treating the search for a space as part of the pre-test routine rather than an afterthought.

Learners travelling in from Dumbarton, Cardross, Callander, Lennoxtown and Torrance often find city driving the hardest part to prepare for without concentrated practice, since it’s a different skill set from the quieter roads around home. LPOD’s Gold 40 course builds that city confidence over a short, intensive block, and the guide on how intensive courses work explains how lessons are scheduled across the week for anyone travelling in from outside Glasgow.

Why Book With LPOD Academy?

Can LPOD book my practical test at this centre for me?
No. Since 12 May 2026, only you can book, change or manage your DVSA practical test. LPOD provides test date support instead: centre and timing guidance as standard, plus an optional Test Alerts + Booking Strategy add-on (£50) if you’d like us actively watching for earlier dates and helping you plan around them.

Which course should I choose before my test?
It depends on your experience. Complete beginners usually start with a Gold or Platinum course, while learners who have already had lessons or sat a test before often suit a Silver or Bronze course. Try our course recommendation tool for a personal suggestion.

Are LPOD instructors qualified?
Yes. Every LPOD instructor is a DVSA-approved ADI, paid full market rates, so you get a properly qualified instructor rather than the cheapest bidder.
