Since 12 May 2026, the DVSA requires candidates to book and manage their own practical test directly, so check the booking reference is registered under your own name rather than an instructor’s before your appointment. Bring your provisional licence and confirmation with you on the day, and expect the same structure as any DVSA test: an eyesight check and vehicle safety questions first, then around 40 minutes of driving including an independent driving section using signs or sat-nav directions. Take a photocard provisional licence with you, not the old paper version, and if you need glasses or contact lenses to drive, don’t leave them at home, since the eyesight check right at the start has to be passed before anything else can happen.
