Train travellers can reach King’s Lynn station from London King’s Cross in around an hour and forty minutes, and National Express coach services also connect the town with other major cities for anyone without their own transport. Test routes around King’s Lynn tend to make use of the flat, open roads typical of west Norfolk, with roundabouts and dual carriageway sections rather than steep or winding roads, and the independent driving section forms part of the route just as it does at every other DVSA centre. An intensive course builds confidence on this kind of road specifically, since maintaining accurate speed judgement on long, flat stretches is a different skill to the hazard perception needed in hillier areas further west. Familiarise yourself with local traffic patterns and avoid peak travel times where possible, particularly around the roundabouts on the approach into town. The car used for the test, whether yours or your instructor’s, must be taxed, insured and fitted with L plates, and a pass allows no more than fifteen minor faults with nothing serious or dangerous.
