Knowing the centre’s real location in advance saves a wasted journey on the day, and it’s worth building that extra distance into your test-day timing.

Braidholm House, 20 Braidholm Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, G46 6SY. There are no toilet facilities at this address, and off-road parking isn’t offered either, so plan where you’ll leave the car in advance. Disabled access is provided. Both car and motorcycle tests are conducted here.
Since 12 May 2026, the candidate alone can book or change their own DVSA practical test, so make sure the booking sits under your own details rather than an instructor’s account. A theory test pass, at £23, is required before you can book; the practical test costs £62 on a weekday appointment. Regardless of where the test happens, the format at Giffnock is the standard one: eyesight check, two safety questions, independent driving for about twenty minutes, a manoeuvre, and an emergency stop on around a third of tests. Passing needs fifteen driver faults or fewer with nothing serious or dangerous, which the intensive course structure is built around achieving consistently.
Since the centre sits in Giffnock rather than Paisley proper, a course built around it covers both the Glasgow southern suburbs and the more Renfrewshire-facing roads a test route might use. Mock tests later on follow the real appointment’s structure, eyesight check and manoeuvre included, so the format is familiar well before test day. Whichever car is used for the test at Giffnock needs L plates front and back, insurance that covers a driving test, and a current MOT if it’s over three years old, the standard DVSA requirement nationwide. Getting to the Paisley Test Centre Test Centre
From Glasgow, the M8 leads straight towards the area, with Exit 28 offering the most direct route in; drivers coming from the south will find the A737 connects well instead. Paisley Abbey and the University of the West of Scotland both make useful landmarks once you’re following signs for the town centre.
Trains run frequently from Glasgow Central to Paisley Gilmour Street, taking around 10 to 15 minutes, and local buses cover the same ground if rail timing doesn’t suit. Glasgow Airport is only a short taxi ride away for anyone flying in for their test.
Parking restrictions apply in parts of the town centre, so look out for designated car parks rather than risking a ticket on test morning. Since the centre is genuinely in Giffnock rather than Paisley, build extra time into your journey alongside remembering your provisional licence photocard, which the test can’t go ahead without. A calm arrival at Braidholm Road matters more than shaving a few minutes off the drive over.
