Dundee Theory Test Centre

The Dundee Theory Test Centre is where learners from across Angus, Fife and the wider Tayside area sit their DVSA theory test before applying for a practical test date. Every booking runs through the official gov.uk system, and the current fee is £23, paid straight to the DVSA when you reserve your slot. As with all DVSA theory centres, the exact street address isn’t listed here; your booking confirmation email carries the details you need to find the room on arrival.

Once the theory pass certificate is in hand, candidates can move on to booking their practical test, and from 12 May 2026 that has to be done by the candidate personally rather than through a third party. LPOD Academy’s Gold 35 intensive course condenses the driving hours a learner typically needs into a focused block, so many candidates plan their theory pass to land just ahead of their intensive week. If you’re studying while based further out, LPOD also runs courses for learners from Arbroath, Perth, St Andrews and Forfar, and our guide on applying for a provisional licence is a useful first stop if you haven’t got yours yet.

Directions To Centre

Drivers should head for Dundee city centre and follow the signs marked Dundee City Centre, then look out for one of the pay-and-display car parks nearby, since parking directly outside the centre isn’t guaranteed. Coming by rail, Dundee railway station is close enough for a short taxi ride or a brisk walk depending on how much time you’ve left yourself. Bus travellers have several local routes to choose from; check the timetable in advance so you know which stop leaves the shortest walk.

Leave a buffer before your appointment time. The DVSA will turn away candidates who arrive after their slot has started, which means forfeiting the fee and having to rebook. You’ll need your provisional licence and confirmation details on you, and it’s worth reviewing the official revision material rather than relying on memory of the questions from friends who’ve already passed, since the question bank is refreshed regularly.

Two sections make up the theory test: 50 multiple-choice questions needing 43 correct, then 14 hazard perception clips where the pass threshold is 44 out of 75. Photo ID has to match your booking exactly, and staff will turn you away without it; a provisional licence or passport both work. If you find reading difficult, extra time can be arranged with the DVSA ahead of your appointment, so it’s worth asking well before test day rather than on arrival. Belongings go in a locker, and the pass or fail result appears on screen straight after, well before any confirmation letter would land.

Why Book With LPOD Academy?

Do I need to pass my theory test before booking an LPOD course?
No, you do not need a theory pass to book a course with us. Many learners sit their theory test early in an intensive week, so it is still fresh once the practical lessons begin.

Can LPOD book my theory test for me?
Yes. We can book your theory test for you as an optional add-on, £60 all in, which includes the £23 DVSA fee.

What does the LPOD theory course cover?
Our in-house online theory course covers all 14 topics, hazard perception and case studies, so you arrive at this centre fully prepared.
