Elgin Theory Test Centre

Elgin Theory Test Centre serves learners across Moray who are booking their DVSA theory test before a practical exam. The booking process runs through gov.uk and currently costs £23; as with all DVSA theory centres, the precise address isn’t published here, so rely on your confirmation email for exact venue details. For a smaller town, Elgin still draws candidates from a fairly wide catchment given how few theory centres serve the Moray coast.

LPOD Academy’s Bronze 10 course suits learners who already have some driving experience and want a shorter, focused run of lessons around their theory pass. From 12 May 2026, remember that DVSA practical test bookings can only be made and managed by the candidate, so set that up yourself once your theory certificate arrives. Learners from Buckie, Forres, Keith and Lossiemouth all travel into Elgin to sit their theory test. A weekday practical test slot from DVSA costs £62, a fee that sits apart from the £23 you’ll already have paid for the theory test.

Directions To Centre

Driving in, follow the A96 until you reach Elgin, then look for signage pointing to the town centre. Arriving by train, Elgin station leaves a short walk to the centre, or you can pick up a local bus for the last stretch if you’d rather not walk. Various bus routes stop around the town centre, running fairly frequently from the surrounding villages, and once you’re in town the rest of the route is a straightforward walk.

Because Elgin’s centre is compact, the walk from either the station or a bus stop rarely takes long, but it’s still worth leaving a margin in case your train or bus is delayed on the way in. Bring your provisional licence and appointment confirmation, since the test cannot proceed without both, and go over the official DVSA revision questions in the days before rather than cramming the night before.

Fifty multiple-choice questions form the first half of the test, with 43 correct answers needed to pass, and 14 hazard perception clips make up the second half, where the threshold is 44 out of 75. You’ll need photo ID matching your booking, either a licence or a passport, and personal items are stored in a locker rather than kept with you. Extra time can be arranged in advance through the DVSA for candidates with a reading difficulty, so raise it before your appointment rather than on the day itself. Your pass or fail result is confirmed on screen right after you finish.
