By car, the M8 gets you into the city fastest; take the exit signed for the city centre and look for parking as early as you can, since spaces near the centre fill up quickly on weekdays. The stretch of the M8 that cuts through Glasgow is about as close as this country gets to motorway-style driving on an urban test route, and the slip roads, lane changes and multi-lane roundabouts around it are the sort of thing practical examiners here expect learners to have practised properly. Glasgow Central Station is the easiest rail option, sitting a short walk from the venue, which makes the train the least stressful choice for anyone unfamiliar with city-centre driving or parking charges. Bus travellers should look for any route stopping near George Square, which leaves a walk of only a few minutes to the test centre itself. DVSA won’t let you book a theory test slot until you already hold a provisional licence, so that has to be in place first. The exam itself follows the usual format wherever you sit it: 50 multiple-choice questions, a pass mark of 43, then hazard-perception clips out of 75 requiring 44 to pass, with a certificate that stays valid for two years once you clear both parts. Learners from East Kilbride, Hamilton, Cumbernauld, Kirkintilloch and Bishopton commonly travel in for this exact centre, and quite a few extend the trip into an LPOD Academy Gold 35 intensive course, making the most of the city’s motorway junctions and multi-lane roundabouts to build confidence before test day rather than facing them cold. Arrive with your provisional licence and enough time to deal with city traffic, since a missed check-in slot at a busy urban centre like this one is rarely recoverable on the day. Remember that since 12 May 2026 the candidate has to book and manage their own practical test through DVSA, a change that catches out families used to instructors handling bookings on their behalf. Our theory test costs guide covers the current £23 fee and payment methods in more detail.
