Drivers heading in should aim for Leeds city centre and follow signs for Merrion Street, where the test centre is based. Train travellers arriving at Leeds station should exit towards Wellington Street, from where it’s roughly a twenty-minute walk or a short taxi ride if you’re pushed for time. Bus passengers should aim for services into Leeds Bus Station, then walk up to Eastgate and continue on to Merrion Street from there; each of the three approaches ends up at the same door.
Given how much traffic passes through Leeds city centre on a typical weekday, build extra time into whichever route you choose rather than cutting the journey fine. Bring your provisional licence for the ID check before the multiple-choice section begins. Candidates travel in from right across West Yorkshire and beyond, including Wakefield, Harrogate, York, Huddersfield and Bradford, and an LPOD Academy intensive course booked to finish around the same date as the theory test keeps the whole process moving rather than stalling between stages. Once a pass is in hand, the next step is the practical test, and since 12 May 2026 DVSA has required candidates to book and manage that themselves rather than through a third party, so it’s worth keeping GOV.UK account details safe as soon as the theory certificate is issued.
Two parts make up the exam: a bank of fifty Highway Code questions answered multiple-choice style, where 43 correct gets you through, followed by fourteen hazard perception clips worth 75 marks combined, 44 of which you need. You find out whether you’ve passed before leaving the building, and the certificate is good for two years. Leeds’ ring road, city-centre one-way systems and busy roundabouts feature heavily on local practical test routes, and LPOD Academy’s intensive lessons are built to cover this kind of driving directly rather than easing learners in gradually. Don’t forget a photocard licence for the ID check on the way in. Learners who’ve worked through structured revision beforehand generally clear the multiple-choice section with time to spare, leaving more focus for the hazard perception clips that follow.
