Leicester Theory Test Centre

Leicester is one of the busier theory test venues in the East Midlands, drawing learners from right across Leicestershire once their instructor confirms they are ready to book. The centre sits within the city itself, close to Humberstone Gate and Charles Street, so anyone already in town does not need a car to reach it. As with every DVSA theory test centre, Leicester does not publish a single fixed street address online; GOV.UK confirms the exact venue on your booking confirmation, and you must bring that confirmation along with your provisional licence on the day. The £23 fee covers 50 multiple-choice questions and the hazard perception clips, and passing here is what unlocks your practical test booking. To pass, you need at least 43 out of 50 on the multiple-choice section and 44 out of 75 on hazard perception, and the certificate stays valid for two years from the date you sit it, which is plenty of time to fit an intensive course around it.

Directions To Centre

Drivers heading in normally pick up the A594 and follow it toward the city centre, where parking is available nearby once you are off the main road; anyone coming from Leicester Forest East, Oadby or Wigston should expect a stretch of dual carriageway before the final run of town-centre streets. Leicester Railway Station is a short walk from the city centre, which makes the train a realistic option if you are travelling from Market Harborough, Corby or Peterborough. Local bus services also stop close to Humberstone Gate and Charles Street, both a brief stroll from the test centre door. Learners from Coalville, Hinckley, Syston, Ashby de la Zouch and Lutterworth often choose Leicester for their theory test precisely because the city-centre venue is easier to reach by public transport than some of the smaller Leicestershire towns. LPOD’s Silver 25 intensive course, and the full range of course options, are built around this order: pass theory first, then compress the practical tuition into a focused run of days while the hazard awareness you have just revised is still fresh. Arrive at least 15 minutes early with your provisional licence and booking confirmation; without either, staff cannot let you sit the test. From 12 May 2026, DVSA also requires the candidate to book and manage their own practical test once theory is passed, so keep your own login details safe rather than leaving that step entirely to an instructor. Our guide to theory test costs and how to pay covers the £23 fee in full. Bring photo ID too: your provisional licence photocard is accepted on its own, but a paper licence needs a valid passport alongside it. Test routes around Leicester typically mix the ring road’s dual carriageway sections with tighter residential streets nearer the centre, so an intensive course that covers both is worth more than one focused purely on quiet suburbs.
