By car, leave the M1 at Junction 33 and take the A630 into the city, where parking facilities are available nearby; the A630’s roundabouts and the dual carriageway approach into Sheffield are a fair sample of what practical test routes here tend to involve. Rail travellers have Sheffield railway station as their best option, with direct services from many major cities and only a short walk or taxi ride left to the centre. Bus travellers can use local services heading towards the city centre and get off at stops nearby, with just a brief walk to finish the journey.
Given how much of the driving around Sheffield involves hills, tram lines and busy multi-lane junctions, LPOD Academy’s intensive courses spend real time on that terrain, whether a learner books Silver 30 or steps up to Gold 40, including hill starts and dealing with trams sharing the road at certain junctions.
On the day, the appointment covers a Highway Code multiple-choice section and a hazard perception section built from filmed clips, both sat in one visit and both requiring a pass; DVSA sets a minimum three working day gap before a resit if either part isn’t cleared. A theory pass certificate is valid for two years, but from 12 May 2026 the candidate themselves must book and manage their DVSA practical test rather than leaving it to an instructor. Build in extra time for city traffic so you’re not rushing on arrival, since DVSA turns away candidates who miss their slot.
Book your slot as soon as your intensive course dates are set, since convenient times in a city as large as Sheffield can fill up quickly, and get your revision started early with the official DVSA app so hazard perception clips feel routine rather than stressful by the time your appointment arrives. Bring your provisional driving licence and nothing else into the test room, since phones and smartwatches have to be left in a locker for the duration. Our theory test costs and payment guide explains the fee structure if you want to check it before booking, and what your options are if you need to change the date later on in the process.
