Practical test centre in Skegness

From Nottingham, the A52 runs directly to Skegness, while drivers coming from Lincoln will find the A158 the more direct choice; both roads cross open Lincolnshire countryside and include roundabouts and single-carriageway overtaking sections that turn up in local test routes. Train travellers from Nottingham or Lincoln usually need to change at Grantham before continuing on to Skegness. Buses from surrounding towns arrive at Skegness bus station, which is centrally placed for onward walking. The Clock Tower and the beach promenade are useful landmarks once you’re in the town itself, and the route in passes through Wainfleet, a small village known locally for its brewery. Traffic is worth planning around during the summer holidays, when the roads into Skegness get considerably busier than the rest of the year, and on-site parking at the test centre can fill up quickly on sunny days too, so arrive earlier than you think you need to.

LPOD’s intensive courses cover the A52 and A158 approaches in detail, since these are the roads most Skegness candidates will actually drive on test day, with the final lessons run as full mock tests to build up pace and confidence. Learners from Mablethorpe, Spilsby, Chapel St Leonards, and Sutton-on-Sea and Trusthorpe can complete a Bronze 15 course, or look at All courses if a longer programme suits better, before coming to Hassall Road for the test. The structure of the UK practical test is fixed nationwide: around 40 minutes of driving, roughly 20 minutes of it independent using directions or a sat nav, one manoeuvre from the examiner’s set options, and an emergency stop on about a third of tests. What Skegness adds to that is a genuinely rural road character, with the A52 and A158 both carrying single-carriageway overtaking sections that don’t really exist in the same way on busier city test routes, so judging safe overtaking distance and speed on the open road matters more here than tight urban manoeuvring. Learners coming in from the smaller coastal towns nearby, places like Chapel St Leonards or Sutton-on-Sea and Trusthorpe, are often already used to quiet roads but less practised at the roundabouts clustered around Skegness itself, so courses here tend to spend proportionally more time on junction work than on open-road driving. Summer holiday traffic changes the picture too, since roads that are near-empty in winter can feel considerably busier in August.
